Welcome

Stacks Image 43
A brand new box of coloured pastels is like opening a beautifully presented gift box of handmade chocolates and just diving in!

What images will they produce, gentle, still ones or extravagant ones buzzing with colour and energy? Each image taking on a life of its own, speaking into the hearts of those who are drawn to them... perhaps bringing confirmation of some long held dream leading into the best future designed for you.

My hope is that my joy in creating each drawing is contagious and becomes a part of your story too, bringing life and healing.

About Me

Jinty McKirdy
"New house, new baby" they say! This was said to my mother when I came into the world in 1952. My parents had just moved to Loch Lomond side where in time I became influenced by my natural surroundings, the colours and shapes in the mountains and the lochs.

After school in Glasgow I went on to study Printed Textiles at Glasgow School of Art in the seventies. Always loving to create, be it with fabrics, silver jewellery and craft work, my overriding passion was drawing - for this I became notorious for the numbers of sketchbooks produced!

In my final year winning a Leverhulme Scholarship enabled me to spend nine months visiting design studios throughout Europe, including Finland, France, and Italy. During that year I was awarded the Newbery Medal, given to the top final year student across all disciplines.

Having graduated from Glasgow School of Art my first post was as a Pattern Designer for Royal Worcester Porcelain Company where I spent the next four years. Then the draw home to Scotland became so strong that I returned to my love of print and fabrics as a self - employed designer/maker of pure silk handprinted scarves, supplying such clients as The Burrell Collection, Gleneagles Golf Club, The Royal Pavilion Brighton, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Liberty's in London. Also at that time I was commissioned to paint over fifty house portraits on silk.

Nowadays my life and style of drawing is very different. Aged forty - five I committed my life to Jesus. Having been a confirmed 'single' for fifty- three years I then married Michael!

No more fine sable brushes as in Royal Worcester. Since 2012 my work is mainly in pastels, using broad strokes in vibrant colours. I love the freedom and life that the medium produces against a black background.
